A sensational case of alleged identity theft and forgery has emerged in Mumbai, where a woman has accused her husband of using a fabricated Aadhaar card bearing her name and photograph to check into the luxury Taj Lands End hotel in Bandra with another woman while their divorce proceedings were underway.

Based on the complaint, the Mumbai Police have registered a criminal case and launched a detailed investigation into allegations of identity theft, forgery, cheating, and criminal conspiracy. Officials said the Bandra Police Station has booked Deepak Goyal and an unidentified woman under Sections 318, 319(2), 336(2), 336(3), 336(4), 340(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. According to the First Information Report, the complainant, Pallavi Deepak Goyal, 39, stated that she married Deepak Goyal in 2013. However, serious marital disputes arose between the couple, and divorce proceedings based on mutual consent have been pending before a court in Surat since February 20.

The controversy came to light on April 14 when Pallavi Goyal was in Mumbai for personal work. During her stay, she received a telephone call from her lawyer, who asked whether she had reached a settlement with her husband and withdrawn the divorce petition. When she denied doing so, the lawyer informed her that an acquaintance had allegedly seen Deepak Goyal at Taj Lands End in Bandra accompanied by another woman.

Alarmed by the revelation, Pallavi Goyal immediately contacted the hotel to verify the information. According to her complaint, hotel officials informed her that a suite had been booked in the names of Deepak Goyal and Pallavi Goyal from February 16 to February 18 and that both guests had checked into the hotel during that period.

Pallavi Goyal subsequently sent an email to the hotel management seeking details about the stay, but she alleged that she received no response. When she visited the hotel the following day, the Assistant Security and Safety Manager reportedly told her that such information could only be disclosed to law enforcement authorities.

During the preliminary investigation, police obtained hotel records and the identity documents submitted during the check-in process. Pallavi Goyal said she was shocked to discover that the Aadhaar card presented to the hotel carried her name and photograph but was allegedly fabricated.

Investigators suspect that forged identity documents may have been used to facilitate the hotel stay. Police are now examining closed-circuit television footage, digital booking records, guest registration forms, and the hotel’s identity verification procedures to determine how the alleged fake Aadhaar card was accepted during check-in.
