Mumbai Police have filed a detailed chargesheet in the case involving the alleged drug overdose deaths of two MBA students during a music concert held at Nesco Ground in Goregaon. The Vanrai Police Station submitted a 3,500-page chargesheet before the court, naming 12 accused, including alleged mastermind Ayush Vicky Sahitya and Mahesh alias Mark Khemalani.

The chargesheet contains statements from around 110 witnesses, including classmates of the deceased students, friends present at the event, security personnel, event organisers, and individuals allegedly linked to the drug network.

Following the filing of the chargesheet, police arrested Nitesh alias Nick Khemalani, the twin brother of key accused Mahesh alias Mark Khemalani. According to police officials, evidence of suspicious financial links between Nick and previously arrested accused persons was found during the investigation into monetary transactions. Based on these findings, he was taken into custody.

A local court has sent Nitesh Khemalani to police custody until July 13. Investigating agencies are now questioning him to gather details about the funding of the drug syndicate, its financial network, and other associates involved in the operation. With this arrest, the total number of arrested accused persons in the case has increased to 14.

Foreign-Origin MDMA Supply Network Under Investigation

The investigation has revealed that the banned MDMA drugs allegedly supplied at the concert were reportedly smuggled into India from abroad. Last week, police arrested 23-year-old Deepesh Hemwani from Ulhasnagar in Thane. Investigators alleged that a delivery of foreign-origin drugs was received at his address.

After questioning, Deepesh Hemwani was sent to judicial custody. Police stated that the main supplier of the network and another accused are still absconding, and continuous raids are being conducted to trace them.

The incident took place on April 11, when around 3,000 to 4,000 students from a reputed management institute in South Mumbai attended a techno music concert organised at Nesco Ground in Goregaon. During the event, MBA student Shreya Rai, aged 24, Bismat Singh Amarjit Singh Bhasin, aged 28, and their friend Sheetal Salvi suddenly fell ill.

Shreya Rai and Bismat Singh Amarjit Singh Bhasin died during treatment at a hospital, while Sheetal Salvi recovered after receiving medical care and was discharged.

Police officials stated that the evidence collected so far has provided several important leads into an international drug network. The search for the absconding accused continues, with investigators expecting further revelations as the probe progresses in the high-profile case.

To address the difficulties faced by passengers due to the suspension of rail services, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation has stepped in and announced 200 additional bus services on the Mumbai-Pune route from today.

Under the special arrangement, these 200 additional ordinary buses will operate along with the existing 312 E-Shivneri bus services running regularly between Mumbai and Pune. The move aims to provide immediate transportation alternatives for passengers affected by the railway disruption.

The Transport Department has issued clear instructions to all concerned depots and bus stations to deploy more additional buses immediately if passenger crowds increase at railway stations. The State Road Transport Corporation administration has been fully deployed on the ground to ensure safe, faster and uninterrupted travel for passengers during the crisis.

Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik confirmed the emergency arrangement and stated that passenger convenience remains the top priority until railway services are restored. He added that the number of buses will be increased further if required.

The swift decision by the State Road Transport Corporation is providing major relief to millions of daily commuters, including working professionals and regular railway passengers travelling between Mumbai and Pune. The additional bus operations have emerged as a crucial support system while rail services remain affected due to adverse weather conditions.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said the Rs 1.10 lakh crore project is expected to be operational within the next two years, reducing travel time between Delhi and Mumbai to just 12 hours.

Gadkari said the expressway will not only transform connectivity by significantly reducing travel time but will also create new opportunities for industries, businesses and employment in the regions through which the corridor passes.

During his inspection of the ongoing construction work, Gadkari reviewed the progress of the expressway stretch from the Laban Interchange in Bundi to the Dara Tunnel in Kota. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma were also present during the inspection on Wednesday.

Addressing a gathering near Gopalpura Mataji, Gadkari said the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is not merely being developed to increase vehicle speed but is also aimed at extending economic development to regions that have remained relatively underdeveloped.

He stated that areas connected by the expressway will witness expansion of industries, businesses, logistics hubs, educational institutions and healthcare facilities. The project is expected to generate new employment opportunities at the local level and accelerate economic growth.

Gadkari also highlighted the proposed Atal Expressway between Kota and Etawah. He said the Detailed Project Report for the approximately Rs 15,000 crore project is currently being prepared. According to him, the highway will provide a major boost to development in the Chambal region and strengthen regional connectivity.

Addressing the gathering in the presence of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, Gadkari assured that the central government would not allow any shortage of funds for road development projects in Rajasthan. He said the government is ready to provide complete support for development works based on the projects proposed by the state government.

Before the inspection, the Union Minister held a meeting with officials to review safety measures and traffic management arrangements on the expressway. He directed authorities to increase regular patrolling and take strict action against heavy vehicles parked in an unorganised manner along the roadside to reduce the possibility of accidents in the future.

The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is among the country’s largest infrastructure projects and is expected to play a crucial role in transforming transportation networks across multiple states. Once operational, the expressway will boost industrial activity in Rajasthan and other regions, reduce logistics costs and provide fresh momentum to economic development.

The pipeline includes around 75-80 redevelopment projects spread across Mumbai’s coastline, comprising more than 250 residential units, said Ritesh Mehta, Senior Director, Residential Advisory Services, India, JLL.

The report highlighted that rising demand for larger homes and waterfront living, combined with improving infrastructure, is positioning Mumbai’s coastal and creek-facing micro-markets across the western suburbs as the city’s next major residential growth corridor.

Premium locations such as Bandra, Juhu, Worli and South Mumbai have traditionally commanded a lifestyle premium due to their proximity to the sea. However, JLL noted that several coastal locations had historically faced valuation limitations because of inadequate connectivity.

With Mumbai’s infrastructure network expanding, coastal and creek-facing micro-markets across the western suburbs are witnessing renewed interest from investors and developers.

While established luxury markets such as Bandra, Juhu and Worli have already absorbed a significant share of Mumbai’s premium housing demand, the next phase of growth is expected to move further north towards areas such as Malad, Borivali and the extended western corridor.

These emerging locations offer larger land parcels, waterfront views and improved infrastructure, creating opportunities for premium residential development. The combination of open views, enhanced accessibility and increasing participation from Grade A developers is driving a new phase of luxury housing expansion beyond traditional high-value residential hubs.

JLL stated that the western suburbs had historically struggled with connectivity challenges, with several attractive coastal locations requiring longer travel times. The Mumbai Coastal Road has significantly improved accessibility, reducing travel time between Worli and Marine Drive from around 35-40 minutes to less than 10-15 minutes under normal traffic conditions.

Further north, the upcoming Versova-Bandra Sea Link is expected to strengthen connectivity along the western coastline by reducing travel time between Versova and Bandra from around 45-60 minutes to 10-15 minutes.

According to the report, improved infrastructure and the northward expansion of premium residential development could make locations beyond Mumbai’s traditional luxury hubs the next major beneficiaries of the city’s coastal growth story.

Earlier, JLL had reported that Mumbai’s luxury housing market continued to expand despite limited supply, registering strong sales of premium homes and achieving the highest-ever half-yearly sales value for luxury residences. The consultancy stated that substantial luxury housing units were sold in recent months, reflecting sustained demand for premium residential properties.

The growing redevelopment pipeline, combined with infrastructure-led connectivity improvements, is expected to reshape Mumbai’s coastal residential landscape and accelerate the emergence of new luxury housing destinations beyond established markets.

The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly will hold a special discussion on the state's rainfall situation after Opposition members protested the delay in taking up the issue.

The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly will hold a short-duration discussion on the state's rainfall situation on Thursday after Opposition members strongly objected to the delay in taking up the issue, prompting Speaker Rahul Narwekar to assure the House that the matter would be discussed during the next day's proceedings.

The announcement came after Opposition legislators staged a protest in the Assembly on Wednesday, arguing that the rain situation was among the most pressing issues before the House and required immediate attention. Members questioned why their notice seeking a discussion on rainfall-related concerns had not been admitted even as the Assembly continued with other scheduled debates.

Raising the matter during the session, Opposition leaders sought clarification from the Chair and stated that postponing the discussion would diminish its significance. They argued that if the issue was not taken up during the ongoing session, it would defeat the purpose of drawing attention to the hardships being faced across Maharashtra due to uneven rainfall during the monsoon season.

Responding to the concerns, Speaker Rahul Narwekar informed the House that proposals seeking the discussion had been submitted by members on Tuesday. However, he said the proposals were received after the "order of the day" for Wednesday's Assembly proceedings had already been finalized, making it impossible to include the matter in the day's agenda.

"The discussion will be held tomorrow," Narwekar told the House while urging members to continue with the scheduled business of the Assembly.

Opposition leaders maintained that the situation across several parts of Maharashtra remained serious and demanded urgent intervention by the government. Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) leader Jayant Patil and Congress leader Nana Patole said several regions continued to experience deficient rainfall despite the ongoing monsoon season.

The leaders claimed that rainfall remained below normal in 134 talukas, forcing many farmers to undertake resowing of crops. They also stated that several farmers were facing severe financial difficulties and lacked the resources needed to carry out additional sowing operations.

Describing the issue as important, Speaker Narwekar assured members that the Assembly would hold a dedicated discussion on the state's rainfall situation on Thursday. He also proposed that the House should consider a broader debate on climate and environmental changes, describing them as significant factors behind increasingly changing and unpredictable weather patterns.

Appealing to legislators to maintain the seriousness of the proceedings, Narwekar urged members to focus on issues directly related to drought, deficient rainfall, and heavy rainfall. He asked members to avoid introducing unrelated matters into the debate so that the Assembly could conduct a meaningful discussion on the challenges faced by citizens and farmers due to changing rainfall patterns across Maharashtra.

The scheduled discussion is expected to provide a legislative platform to address concerns over deficient rainfall, the impact on agriculture, and the broader challenges posed by changing climatic conditions, as lawmakers prepare to debate one of the state's most pressing monsoon-related issues.

Police, the Fire Department, the National Disaster Response Force, and the Army have launched an extensive rescue operation as efforts continue to locate those buried under the debris.

The incident occurred in Moshi, where the three-storey building served as the administrative office of a private company responsible for processing waste on behalf of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation. According to officials, the building was situated next to a mountain-like pile of legacy waste that gave way following heavy rainfall.

Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Commissioner Vijay Suryawanshi said the administrative building was located beside a massive legacy waste dump. He stated that preliminary findings indicate the heavy rain loosened the waste mound, causing it to collapse directly onto the building.

The footage highlights the emotional attachment some vehicle owners develop with their cars, treating them as more than just a means of transportation or a valuable possession.

The video begins with a man holding onto the tailgate of a car that is almost completely submerged in floodwater, creating the impression that the vehicle’s door may have been detached. Despite the dangerous conditions, the man refuses to let go and continues holding firmly onto the vehicle.

As the video progresses, a JCB machine is seen pulling the flood-affected car out of the water. The man later assists in the recovery effort, remaining alongside the vehicle and helping the JCB remove it from the affected area. Even while standing chest-deep in water with the floating car, he continues holding onto the vehicle in an attempt to save it.

The video has gained millions of views on social media platforms and continues to receive further attention. Many users have expressed empathy for the car owner, with several describing the scene as heartbreaking. Others have appreciated the man’s courage and his emotional connection with his four-wheeler companion.

The vehicle featured in the video is an older version of the Tata Nexon EV. Despite being submerged in water, several functions of the electric vehicle appear to remain operational. The vehicle’s lights are still switched on, while the wipers continue functioning.

The car appears to be the MY2020 version of the Tata Nexon EV, which comes equipped with a 30.2 kWh battery pack and offers a driving range of approximately 300 kilometres on a single charge. The current version of the electric SUV is available with a starting price of Rs 12.49 lakh (ex-showroom).

The incident has drawn attention to the deep emotional connection many owners share with their vehicles, with the viral footage showing a rare moment where a person’s attachment to a car goes beyond ownership and becomes a matter of personal sentiment.

The young man, identified as Shadab, wore a red and blue Spider-Man costume and stepped into flooded streets to support commuters. He helped manage traffic, attempted to clear pathways, and assisted people affected by waterlogging.

A video of the incident has gone viral on social media. The footage shows vehicles moving slowly through rainwater-filled roads while Shadab, dressed as Spider-Man, regulates traffic, tries to improve road conditions, and encourages pedestrians.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Shadab said that despite waterlogging in the area, the Municipal Corporation team had not reached the location. After seeing people struggling, he decided to step forward and provide assistance himself.

The video shows Shadab not only managing traffic but also interacting with residents, shaking hands with people, giving high-fives to children, and motivating them with a smile. His actions have attracted appreciation from social media users, many of whom described him as a real-life Spider-Man.

One user wrote that the real Spider-Man was the person helping people on the streets, while another said that helping others without expecting anything in return was the greatest superpower. Some users humorously referred to the act as “Spider-Man: India Chapter.”

Continuous rainfall across Maharashtra has created waterlogging conditions in several areas, affecting daily life and transportation. At a time when residents are facing difficulties due to weather-related challenges, Shadab’s initiative has become a topic of discussion.

The incident has highlighted that superheroes are not limited to films and fictional stories. Ordinary individuals can also become heroes through their actions, compassion, and willingness to support others during difficult times.

The Maharashtra Chief Minister’s Office confirmed the reopening of the road and urged citizens to exercise caution amid continuing adverse weather conditions. In a post on X, the office stated, “Traffic is resumed at the Connecting Link; vehicular movement is restored. The government is trying its best. Stay safe, everyone!”

The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation also announced that traffic had resumed on the Pune-Mumbai Connecting Link Road after the completion of safety measures despite challenging weather conditions. The corporation stated that vehicular movement was restored after extensive safety operations were completed.

Heavy rainfall had triggered landslides in the Mumbai-Pune ghat section on Monday, severely affecting road and rail connectivity between the two cities. Large rocks fell onto railway tracks, forcing the suspension of traffic on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and the old Mumbai-Pune Highway following the major landslide.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai Central Division of Western Railway reported severe waterlogging in the Vasai Road, Nalasopara and Virar sections due to continuous heavy rainfall. Considering passenger safety and operational challenges, several trains were cancelled and others were diverted.

Western Railway announced the cancellation of Train No. 19016 Porbandar-Dadar Express, Train No. 19218 Veraval-Bandra Terminus Express and Train No. 12941 Bhavnagar Terminus-Asansol Express scheduled for July 7. Train No. 12942 Asansol-Bhavnagar Terminus Express, scheduled for July 9, was also cancelled.

Additionally, Train No. 20495 Jodhpur-Hadapsar Express and Train No. 22497 Sri Ganganagar-Tiruchirappalli Express, both scheduled to depart on July 6, were diverted through the Surat-Paldhi-Jalgaon-Manmad-Daund Chord Line-Pune route.

The India Meteorological Department issued an Orange Alert for Mumbai, Kolhapur, Satara, Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri districts, predicting moderate rainfall at isolated locations. Earlier, a Red Alert was issued for Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Pune and the Nashik ghat areas, warning of very heavy rainfall, strong winds and possible waterlogging.

The Maharashtra government declared work from home for all offices and deployed disaster relief teams for rescue and emergency operations. The Chief Minister appealed to residents to remain cautious as the weather department issued a cloudburst warning for July 7 between Nashik and Trimbakeshwar.

The Maharashtra Chief Minister’s Office further stated that Palghar and the Konkan region remained under a Red Alert for July 7. Around 500 citizens in Palghar were shifted to safer locations as a precautionary measure. Authorities also advised pilgrims to avoid entering Alandi after all four bridges connecting the town were submerged due to flooding of the Indrayani River.

The restoration of the Pune-Mumbai Connecting Link Road provided relief to commuters after a major weather-related disruption, but continuing rainfall, railway cancellations and flood conditions highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by Maharashtra amid intense monsoon activity.
