A highway crash in Taiwan’s Miaoli County killed three people after drivers involved in an initial collision stopped in the inner lane instead of moving to the shoulder or placing warning triangles.

The incident occurred on August 19 at around 10:25 a.m. on Taiwan’s National Freeway No. 1 near Miaoli County, when a rental van lightly hit a Tesla.

After the collision, the drivers remained between the two vehicles in the inner lane. They did not pull the vehicles to the shoulder or set up warning triangles to alert approaching traffic.

Moments later, a Volvo struck the vehicles from behind. The crash killed the rental van driver, the Tesla driver and a passenger, while three other people were injured.
