Three men have been arrested after two Class 10 students were allegedly stopped, abused and assaulted while returning from coaching classes on a scooter in Bihar’s Jamui district on September 19, with video footage of the incident prompting widespread demands for action under the POCSO Act.

The minors were returning from coaching classes at around 6–7 p.m. when the men stopped them on what appears to be the Jamui-Lakhisarai road. The accused allegedly forced the students off the scooter, abused them and chased them.

Video footage of the incident shows one man lifting and groping the girl while others attacked the boy. The footage led to widespread calls for the accused to be charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Following the incident, Jamui Police formed a Special Investigation Team and registered an FIR based on the statements of the victims. Police arrested three accused in connection with the case and identified all the men seen in the video. Further arrests are expected as the investigation continues.

The Bihar State Commission for Women also demanded stringent action against those involved in the incident.

The arrests, identification of the accused and ongoing investigation follow the reported assault of the two Class 10 students, with authorities continuing action based on the victims’ statements and the video footage of the incident.

A Borivali court has remanded Sachin Ramesh Suvarna, the accused in the fatal stabbing of a fellow passenger aboard a Mumbai suburban train, to police custody until June 29. Police said the accused was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident and has confessed to the crime during interrogation.

According to investigators, the confrontation began after the deceased, Mayank Lohar, asked Suvarna to close the train door as rainwater was entering the coach. The request soon escalated into an argument, during which Lohar allegedly punched the accused.

Police said Suvarna claimed that several other passengers also sided with Lohar and began confronting him. Under the influence of alcohol, Suvarna allegedly pulled out a sharp knife and repeatedly stabbed Lohar in the chest and abdomen.

The accused was produced before a Borivali magistrate on June 24 after his arrest. Police sought his custodial interrogation to recover the weapon used in the attack. Investigators informed the court that custody was necessary to recover the murder weapon, establish the motive behind the killing, and verify whether the accused had any previous criminal record.

According to police, the argument broke out after the Churchgate–Nalasopara fast local train halted at Andheri railway station at 10:42 p.m. The dispute quickly turned violent when Suvarna allegedly attacked Lohar with a knife. After the stabbing, Lohar collapsed inside the train in a pool of blood, while Suvarna jumped off the train at Borivali railway station and fled from the scene.

The accused was later traced with the help of CCTV footage and taken into custody. Personnel from the Government Railway Police and the Railway Protection Force shifted the injured passenger to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The Western Railway administration stated that the train arrived at Borivali railway station at 11:04 p.m. Officials from the Government Railway Police and the Railway Protection Force immediately responded, transported the victim on a stretcher, and brought him to the station's emergency room at 11:22 p.m. He was subsequently shifted to Shatabdi Hospital at 11:42 p.m. The railway administration has handed over the CCTV footage to the investigating agency. Senior officials also inspected Borivali railway station at around 1:00 a.m. as part of the investigation.

The deceased's sister said her brother had never been involved in any dispute with anyone and rarely stood near the train door before reaching his destination. The family questioned how passengers were able to carry deadly weapons inside suburban trains and described the incident as a serious case of administrative negligence. They said such a brutal killing over a minor argument raises grave concerns about passenger safety.
