Tamil cinema’s fascination with police procedurals takes a gripping turn in Sirai, a tightly constructed thriller that places a seemingly routine escort duty at the centre of an escalating moral and legal crisis. Headlined by Vikram Prabhu and written by former police officer Tamizh, the film transforms a procedural detail into a nerve-racking narrative engine, while also making pointed observations about institutional rigidity and social prejudice.

The film opens with a stark reminder of the consequences faced by an escort officer if a prisoner escapes custody. Under IPC Section 129, the punishment can extend up to three years of imprisonment. This legal fact is established early, setting a sense of quiet dread that underpins the entire story. From that moment, Sirai frames its suspense not merely around escape or capture, but around accountability within a deeply hierarchical system.

Set in 2003, the story follows Head Constable Kathiravan, portrayed with restraint and intensity by Vikram Prabhu. Kathiravan is an earnest officer navigating professional strain and domestic life with his wife Mariyam, also a police constable, played by Ananda Thambirajah, and their children. At work, he is already under scrutiny due to an inquiry related to an encounter case, making his position particularly precarious. When he agrees to escort a murder convict from Vellore prison to the Sivagangai court to help a colleague attend to a family emergency, the decision sets off a chain of events that threatens to upend his life.

The prisoner, Abdul Rauf, played by LK Akshay Kumar, is introduced as visibly anxious and constantly alert, scanning for possible chances to escape. His unease is amplified by lapses in vigilance from the accompanying constables, creating multiple openings that heighten tension throughout the journey. As the escort progresses, the narrative raises urgent questions: will Abdul attempt to flee, what drives his desperation, and what truth lies behind the murder charge that put him behind bars?

Rather than relying on spectacle, Sirai maintains its grip through atmosphere, pacing, and detail. Tamizh, best known for his earlier cop drama Taanakkaran, once again brings authenticity to the portrayal of policing, exposing the pressures faced by lower-rank officers trapped within an authoritarian, colonial-era system. In this world, both the uniformed constable and the accused prisoner appear expendable, crushed by procedure and power.

What elevates Sirai beyond a conventional thriller is its thematic ambition. Through the evolving dynamic between Kathiravan and Abdul, the film subtly but firmly addresses religious bigotry, challenging the instinctive judgments made by institutions and individuals alike. As their paths intersect, the story forces the audience to confront how prejudice can shape perception, justice, and empathy.

Running a taut two hours, Sirai sustains suspense while balancing legal realities with social commentary. It presents a grounded portrayal of law enforcement and incarceration, using a minimalist structure to examine broader questions of responsibility, conscience, and bias. By the time the journey concludes, the film leaves behind more than the resolution of a single escort mission—it underscores how fragile justice can be when systems value order over truth.

A Romance That Overstays Its Welcome: ‘Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri’ Draws Critical Ire

Sameer Vidwans’ latest romantic drama Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri has arrived with a title as unwieldy as the reactions it has provoked, earning sharp criticism for its length, tone and dated view of romance. Starring Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday, the film attempts to merge contemporary hook-up culture with the nostalgic framework of 1990s Bollywood love stories, a contrast that reviewers say the film labours to explain rather than explore.

Often shortened to TMMT, the film openly spells out its central idea through its own dialogue, underscoring what critics describe as an over-explanatory narrative approach. The story follows Rehan, played by Kartik Aaryan, a Los Angeles–based wedding planner who runs his business with his unmarried and unconventional mother Pinky, portrayed by Neena Gupta. Rumi, played by Ananya Panday, is a romance novelist from Agra. Their paths cross during a holiday in Croatia, where their relationship begins under circumstances that reviewers note rely heavily on familiar Hindi film tropes.

According to the critique, Rehan’s persistent pursuit of Rumi initially meets resistance, but the dynamic eventually shifts into mutual affection. The film then steers toward marriage, only to be complicated by Rumi’s refusal to leave India and her widowed father Amar, played by Jackie Shroff. Amar, though depicted as relatively healthy and in his early sixties, is shown falling ill at a crucial moment, a narrative turn that critics say exists largely to propel the emotional conflict.

Written by Karan Shrikant Sharma, TMMT divides its time between scenic visuals and sentimentality. Reviewers describe significant portions of the film as resembling an extended tourism showcase for Croatia, with locations clearly identified on screen, and a stylised wedding video aesthetic. The remaining narrative space is devoted to overt references to Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, long regarded as a benchmark for traditional, family-oriented romance in Hindi cinema.

Critics further observe that the film’s dialogue frequently attempts to mimic Gen Z speech patterns while simultaneously mocking what it perceives as modern “wokeness,” resulting in lines that feel forced rather than fresh. Kartik Aaryan’s performance, marked by raised volume and heightened delivery, has also been cited as doing little to elevate the material.

As Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri positions itself as a bridge between eras of romance, its reception suggests that nostalgia alone may not be enough to sustain contemporary audiences. The film’s response highlights an ongoing tension in mainstream Hindi cinema between revisiting beloved formulas and adapting meaningfully to changing cultural sensibilities.

Xiaomi’s next wave of mid-range smartphones appears to be approaching quickly, with industry insiders indicating that the Redmi Note 15 series could make its India debut on January 6, 2026. While the company has yet to formally confirm the launch date, noted tipsters Yogesh Brar and Abhishek Yadav suggest that Xiaomi may adopt a staggered release strategy—introducing the standard Redmi Note 15 first, followed by the more advanced Redmi Note 15 Pro and Redmi Note 15 Pro Plus models in the weeks ahead.

Early leaks point to a significant upgrade cycle for the base Redmi Note 15. The device is expected to feature a 6.8-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, aimed at delivering smoother visuals and improved viewing quality. At its core, the smartphone may run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 processor paired with Xiaomi’s latest HyperOS 2 software. Battery improvements also appear substantial, with the model reportedly offering a capacity exceeding 5500mAh alongside support for 45W fast charging. Additional enhancements may include an IP65 rating for dust and water resistance, as well as a lightweight design coming in near 170 grams. On the camera front, the handset is rumoured to carry a 108MP primary sensor, an 8MP ultrawide lens and a 20MP front camera.

The higher-tier variants are expected to push the hardware envelope further. Both the Redmi Note 15 Pro and Pro Plus may feature a slightly larger 6.83-inch AMOLED panel, maintaining the same 120Hz refresh rate. Protection upgrades could come in the form of Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and an IP68 rating, typically reserved for more premium devices. Under the hood, the Pro Plus variant is tipped to include Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chipset, while the Pro model may run on MediaTek’s Dimensity 7400 Ultra. Camera specifications in the Pro lineup could also see a major leap, with a 200MP main sensor accompanied by an 8MP ultrawide lens. Battery capacity on the Pro Plus is expected to reach around 6500mAh, reinforcing Xiaomi’s focus on endurance.

With competition intensifying in India’s mid-range segment, the Redmi Note 15 series may play a pivotal role in shaping Xiaomi’s market trajectory in 2026. If the leaked timeline holds, the launch could signal the brand’s most aggressive push yet for feature-packed smartphones at accessible prices, setting the stage for a competitive start to the new year.

Bollywood has always loved its weddings. From Hum Aapke Hain Koun to Band Baaja Baaraat and more recently Jugjugg Jeeyo, the 'shaadi film' has become its own sub-genre that carry a mix of colour, drama, romance and dance. Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, directed by Shashank Khaitan has also joined this club that promised to have comedy, romance and emotional chaos set against the backdrop of a big fat desi wedding. While on paper, it has all the ingredients: a love triangle, fake dating, quirky family members, a lavish setting and a whole lot of Bollywood glitz. But how does it play out on screen? Let’s find out.

Story

It all begins with the so-called 'Sanskari' Sunny, whose life is entangled in family obligations and personal dilemmas. He crosses paths with Tulsi, who herself is navigating heartbreak and complicated emotions. Amid all this, a plan of fake romance is designed to make others jealous and set things right in their respective love lives. Of course, Bollywood tradition dictates that fake love often blossoms into something real and Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari doesn’t shy away from that arc.

Along the way, narrative throws in a mix of jealous exes, awkward encounters, loud relatives and the usual shaadi-wedding chaos. If you’ve seen rom-coms before, none of this will shock you. Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari has all the typical Dharma ingredients like misunderstandings, big dance numbers, emotional revelations, and a climax where hearts are mended. But what keeps the film from being dull and predictable is the energy of its cast and its festive mood.

Direction and Writing

Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, Badrinath Ki Dulhania and Dhadak director Shashank Khaitan knows the grammar of a Bollywood rom-com inside out. His direction here in Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari too is energetic, glossy and geared toward entertainment. He stages the wedding sequences with scale and spectacle, ensuring that every frame looks colourful and grand. Where he falters, however, is in balancing the froth with genuine depth. There are hints of emotional drama, but they rarely get the space to breathe before the film rushes back into comedy or song.

The writing of Shashank Khaitan and Ishita Moitra reflects the same strength and weakness. The dialogues are often funny and sharp, giving the film its lighter moments. But the screenplay as a whole leans too heavily on cliches, the fake relationship setup, the jealous ex, the climactic wedding drama, all familiar beats we’ve seen in multiple rom-coms. A tighter script with more emotional layering could have elevated the film from 'fun distraction' to 'memorable entertainer.'

Technical aspects

The film is unapologetically glossy. From lavish wedding sets to designer costumes, every frame screams 'big Bollywood wedding.' The production design deserves praise for creating an atmosphere that’s vibrant and celebratory, even if at times it feels more like a fashion show than a story. Especially the Udaipur portion has been shot really well.

The music, while being peppy, gives unforgettable tracks. There are a couple of catchy numbers that work in the moment, especially during dance sequences, but you might not hum them once you leave the theatre. Still, the choreography is fun and designed to get audiences clapping in their seats.

Acting

Varun Dhawan is playing it in his safe zone in Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari. He's playing the energetic, lovable hero, who's goofy, earnest and has a good comic rhythm. While some of his emotional moments feel a bit surface-level, his natural screen presence keeps Sunny likeable throughout.

On the other hand, Janhvi Kapoor gets more room to play with subtle emotions. Her character, Tulsi is caught between past heartbreak and new possibilities and the actor somehow pulls it off. However, her chemistry with Varun sometimes feels inconsistent, it works in some scenes, but not always. Moreover, while she's able to handle the emotional scenes well, Janhvi looks poor is comedy frames. She looks stunning in the film’s lavish costumes, but beyond the glam, she manages to make Tulsi vulnerable and relatable in only key moments, lacking an overall depthtual performance.

As expected, the supporting duo of Sanya Malhotra and Rohit Saraf add a lot of heart to the film. Sanya’s performance has a grounded quality, making her character feel emotionally real, while Rohit Saraf’s boyish charm brings a different energy. In many ways, their track ends up feeling more engaging than the main one. Maniesh Paul is the comic relief in Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari and he does his job well. His dialogues and timing bring some genuine laughs, especially when the script risks becoming too formulaic.

What works

Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari has quality entertainment factor. If you walk into the theatre looking for a lighthearted, colourful rom-com, then Varun and Janhvi's will do the job for you. The writing sprinkles in enough situational comedy and witty lines to keep the film breezy. The banter between characters, especially Sunny and Tulsi’s playful jabs are fine. Moreover, it’s hard not to be impressed by the sheer scale of the production. The film knows it’s meant to be a festive entertainer and fully embraces that role.

What doesn’t work

The biggest drawback of Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari is its predictability. You can see every twist coming, right down to the convenient resolution in the climax. From the title of the film to its trailer, everything suggested the ending and the plot of the film.

While the film flirts with themes of heartbreak and betrayal, it rarely dives deeper. The emotions stay at the surface, making the climax feel less earned. For viewers who like rom-coms with a genuine emotional punch, this might feel underwhelming. Moreover, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari lacks authentic chemistry, although Varun and Janhvi give their best, their pairing doesn’t always sparkle the way one hopes. At times, you feel more invested in the side characters than in the central romance.

But the biggest flaw in Shashank's film is his huge reliance on cliches. From exes creating drama to the inevitable wedding showdown, the script sticks to safe, well-worn and played cards. At the end, the film just feels like a remix of rom-coms we’ve already seen.

Verdict

This film is made for audiences who enjoy lighthearted Bollywood fare. Families, who are looking for a festive outing, couples wanting a breezy date movie or Varun and Janhvi fans, will likely enjoy it. Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari doesn’t aim to be groundbreaking cinema. It doesn’t pretend to reinvent the rom-com wheel. Instead, it positions itself as an easy, colourful entertainer, one that relies on tried-and-tested formulas to deliver a cheerful viewing experience.

Yes, it’s predictable, it leans on cliches. But the film has it's heart at the right place. In a way, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari is like a familiar wedding dish you’ve eaten a hundred times before. You know exactly how it tastes, you know it won’t surprise you, but you still eat it with a smile because it makes you feel good. That, in essence, is what this film is all about and hence, it deserves 2.5 out of 5 stars.

After getting information about the incident, she has now left for Mumbai.

Malaika Arora's childhood

In 2022, Malaika in an interview talked about not only about her 'wonderful' childhood but also how she faced tough times in the early years of her life. She recalled how she was only 11 when her parents, Anil Arora and Joyce Polycarp had a divorce.

Malaika along with her sister Amrita, who was six years old then, moved with their mother from Thane to Chembur and were raised by her after the divorce. In an interview with Grazia India, she said, ''I had a wonderful childhood, but it wasn't easy. In fact, in retrospect, the word I would use to describe it is tumultuous. But tough times teach you important lessons too.''

''My parents' separation allowed me to observe my mother through a new and unique lens. I learned a rock-steady work ethic and the value of getting up each morning to do whatever it takes to become fiercely independent. Those early lessons are the cornerstones of my life and professional journey. I am still fiercely independent; I value my freedom and live life on my terms,'' she added.

On the work front

She was last seen in the song 'Aap Jaisa Koi' in the film An Action Hero starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Jaideep Ahalwat. She was also seen in 'Tera Hi Khayal' music video. Some media reports suggest that she will also feature in the upcoming multi-starrer Housefull 5 in a special cameo appearance.

"BREAKING: Pan World Star #Prabhas' #Salaar ZOOMS past $500k[4.14 cr] at the USA box office from just pre-sales. ||#SalaarCeaseFire | #SalaarTrailer||," wrote Vijayabalan in a social media post announcing the development. Prabhas, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Shruti Haasan, and Jagapathi Babu all play key parts in Salaar. The Telugu action-thriller, directed by Prashanth Neel and made by Hombale Films, is a story of a mafia boss in the underground. The film is scheduled to premiere on September 28.

On the other hand, Shah Rukh's much-anticipated film Jawan is all set to hit theatres on September. With just 7 days to go, the film's trailer was released on Thursday and immediately crashed the internet. The hashtag #JawanTrailer began trending on the microblogging platform X as soon as the Jawan trailer was posted.

After witnessing King Khan in the movie in a previously unseen avatar and the combat scenes displayed in the trailer, fans went absolutely insane. With the unexpected trailer, fans are already finding it difficult to wait for the movie's September 7 release and have now thronged to pre-book tickets for the show. Earlier, Jawan's advance tickets went on sale through BookMyShow, but only in two venues in Mumbai and that too in Hindi.

As per the latest information shared by trade portal Sacnilk, advance booking in India will begin on September 1. It is unclear as to when advance booking will begin in other cities like Chennai, Hyderabad, and Delhi, as well as in other languages like Tamil and Telugu. The film helmed by Atlee features Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara, Sanya Malhotra, and Priyamani in addition to Shah Rukh Khan.

Days before its release in theatres, the makers of the highly anticipated film starring Shah Rukh Khan dropped the trailer on Instagram. The action drama movie, which is Shah Rukh and Nayanthara's debut collaboration, has all that is required for a Bollywood masala movie.

Shah Rukh's second release of the year follows the box office sensation Pathaan, which was released in January, and is helmed by director Atlee Kumar.

Of justice and a Jawan, SRK stated when sharing the trailer on social media. about women and their retaliation. a boy and his mum. Of course, a tonne of fun as well! Prepared Ahh. Jawan will be released in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu globally on September 7, 2023.

Shah Rukh Khan's voiceover introduces the trailer. He tells the tale of a man, whom he refers to as a "king," who is enraged after losing all of his wars one after the other. Then we learn that a young man in rage is "hijacking Mumbai." It is none other than jawan Shah Rukh Khan who is in question.

What is his goal? He quips that he "wants Alia Bhatt" but that he will make do with his master plan in the interim (more on that later). Nayanthara is the only thing preventing this Jawan from achieving his objective.

In the film, Shah Rukh Khan plays a former soldier who leads a group of six ladies as they carry out various heists across the nation. They commandeer a metro, and Nayanthara's policeman is assigned to investigate. However, based on a few instances where they interact romantically, it appears that Shah Rukh and Nayanthara were once married.

Jawan also stars Sanya Malhotra, Girija Oak, Sanjeeta Bhattacharya, Ridhi Dogra, Sunil Grover, Vijay Sethupathi, Priyamani, Girija Oak, and Girija Oak. Deepika Padukone has a brief cameo appearance in Jawan, which is directed by Atlee and made by Red Chillies Entertainment, a Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan production. On September 7, 2023, Jawan will be released in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi. The Shah Rukh Khan movie is expected to have a blockbuster opening thanks to advance bookings made around the globe.

After emerging as the 3rd highest-grossing film of all time in the Hindi language at the domestic box office and breaking the KGF: Chapter 2 record, Gadar 2 is now eying to surpass the milestone set by Prabhas' Baabubali: The Conclusion. At the end of its 17-day theatrical run, Gadar 2 has amassed Rs 454.95 crore nett in India while Akshay Kumar's OMG 2 which also hit the screens on August 11, witnessed marginal growth at the box office.

According to early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk, Gadar 2 box office numbers shot up by 9% on day 17. On Sunday, the film is likely to rake in Rs 15 crore nett in India. Helmed by Anil Sharma, Gadar 2 registered a staggering Rs 55.4 crore collections on Independence Day, the highest so far while the lowest number stood at Rs 7.1 crore on the third Friday of its release.

Gadar 2 dethroned Yash's KGF 2 (Rs 435 cr) as the third highest-grossing film in Hindi on day 16. Deol's blockbuster hit is now eying to zoom past Baahubali 2 collections (Rs 511 cr) in the coming weeks. Notably, Gadar 2 entered Rs 100 crore club within three days of its release.

Although the simultaneous release of Gadar 2 and Akshay's OMG 2, the latter's film managed to keep the cash register ringing at the ticket window. Akshay, Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam starrer OMG 2 is likely to mint over Rs 3.50 crore on Sunday. The film observed a slight improvement in numbers on day 17 and accumulated Rs 134.69 crore nett in the domestic market. Despite Gadar 2 wave and the release of Dream Girl 2, Akshay's film enjoyed an overall occupancy of 42.86% in Hindi market.

Meanwhile, prospects of Gadar 2 beating Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan record are rife. The film has infused new life in the momentum that Pathaan provided to a rather tepid Hindi film industry earlier this year. The film garnered mixed reviews upon its release but strong word of mouth outshined the critical response of the film.
