A purported statement attributed to Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, claiming that he would target Sanatan Dharma after defeating Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has gone viral across social media platforms. The claim is being circulated through a postcard-style graphic alleging that Gandhi said he would deal with Sanatan Dharma in such a manner that the entire country would witness it after defeating Modi. The graphic has been widely shared on Facebook and X, with some users posting sarcastic remarks, including claims that such a scenario would never materialize.

However, an examination of the claim found no evidence that Rahul Gandhi ever made such a statement. Had the Congress leader delivered a remark of this nature about Sanatan Dharma, it would have received extensive coverage from major news organizations. No such reports were found.

During the verification process, a report published by The Print on May 9, 2026, was reviewed. According to the report, Rahul Gandhi participated in former Member of Parliament Brijendra Singh's "Sadbhav Yatra" in Gurugram on May 8, 2026. Addressing a public gathering during the event, Gandhi stated that the Congress party would defeat Narendra Modi and that the country would then witness what action the party would take against him.

Throughout his speech, Gandhi discussed issues including the alleged misuse of democratic institutions, unemployment, and the trade agreement with the United States. There was no reference whatsoever to Sanatan Dharma or Hinduism in the speech.

The complete address is also available on Rahul Gandhi's official YouTube channel. At approximately 48 minutes and 50 seconds into the speech, Gandhi says, "Write this down. The Congress party will defeat Narendra Modi. Then you will see what action we take against Narendra Modi. Because he has attacked the country. He has attacked the democratic system and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's Constitution. He has attacked the rights of the people guaranteed under the Constitution. Democracy is your right, and he has attacked that right and destroyed democracy. We are not going to forget this, no matter what happens."

The available evidence clearly shows that the viral postcard selectively used a portion of Gandhi's speech while falsely adding references to Sanatan Dharma that were never made.

At the same time, it is also true that Rahul Gandhi has previously faced controversy over remarks related to Hinduism. During a speech in Parliament, he commented on the Manusmriti, a statement that was criticized by the Shankaracharya and several other religious leaders, who described it as an insult to Sanatan Dharma.

According to reports, the incident took place late on Friday night at the Doyami Police Outpost under the Kotwali Dehat Police Station limits. At around 11:00 p.m., a man identified as Rinku, who was reportedly heavily intoxicated, entered the police outpost. Finding the premises completely deserted, he allegedly assumed the role of a police officer in a dramatic manner.

The viral video shows the man wearing a police inspector’s cap while sitting on an official chair and examining documents placed on the desk. People recording the video can be heard jokingly asking him to accept written complaints, while he remains seated inside the police outpost, creating a scene that has drawn widespread attention online.

According to the information available, Police Outpost In-Charge Surajpal was conducting patrol duty in the area at the time of the incident. Meanwhile, the remaining police personnel attached to the outpost had been deployed to Bulandshahr for a Very Very Important Person security assignment. With no officers present at the outpost, the intoxicated man allegedly took advantage of the unattended premises.

Kotwali Dehat Police Station House Officer Paras Malik said that the accused, Rinku, was taken into custody and sent to a hospital for medical treatment. He added that further legal action will be initiated after the man's condition improves.

According to the Hindu calendar, the festival is observed every year on the second lunar day of the bright fortnight during the month of Ashadha. Three massive wooden chariots are specially constructed for Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra. The procession begins with the chariot of Lord Balabhadra, followed by the chariot of Devi Subhadra, while the chariot of Lord Jagannath, known as Nandighosh, proceeds last.

The festival is considered unique because it allows devotees to have the sacred viewing of the deities outside the Jagannath Temple. Many devotees also believe that pulling the ropes of Lord Jagannath's chariot brings spiritual merit and divine blessings.

During the nine-day celebration, the three deities travel from the Jagannath Temple to the Gundicha Temple, traditionally believed to be the residence of their aunt. After remaining there for several days, they return to the main temple during the return chariot procession, after which they are ceremonially reinstalled on the Ratnavedi. The annual festival continues to stand as one of India's most enduring religious traditions, while the viral historical footage has further amplified public fascination with its rich cultural and spiritual heritage.

A woman from Uzbekistan was arrested by the 47th Battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) near the Maitri Bridge along the India-Nepal border after she allegedly attempted to escape from India into Nepal. Preliminary investigation revealed that she had been living illegally in India for nearly a year without a valid visa and had allegedly obtained an Aadhaar card under a false identity to conceal her real identity.

According to SSB sources, the incident took place on the evening of July 16, 2026, when SSB personnel were conducting routine inspections at the Maitri Bridge. During the verification process, security personnel intercepted a suspicious woman attempting to cross into Nepal. Questioning and document verification confirmed that she was a resident of Uzbekistan. However, she failed to produce any valid visa authorizing her stay in India.

The investigation further revealed that the woman had allegedly been living illegally in Mumbai for the past one year with a person described as her Indian friend. Authorities identified the woman as Bojorova Shakarjon. She was found carrying a passport that remains valid until October 2029, but she could not produce the mandatory visa required to legally reside in India.

During the inquiry, investigators also discovered that the woman had allegedly changed her original identity and obtained an Indian Aadhaar card under a different name. Authorities are now examining the alleged preparation and use of forged identity documents, including the circumstances under which the Aadhaar card was obtained and the individuals who may have assisted her in securing the fraudulent document.

After completing preliminary questioning, the SSB handed the woman over to Haraiya Police Station for further legal proceedings. Haraiya Police Station Officer Kishan Kumar Paswan confirmed the development and stated that a First Information Report has been registered under the Foreigners Act and for violations of passport and visa regulations. He said the police are conducting a comprehensive investigation into every aspect of the case. The arrested foreign national has been remanded to judicial custody.

Officials stated that this is not the first instance of a foreign national being apprehended along the India-Nepal border. In previous cases, several foreign men and women have also been arrested by the SSB. Authorities said women attempting to enter India illegally through Nepal have frequently been intercepted in the past.

The Bihar Police are expected to seek the woman's custodial remand for detailed interrogation. Investigators are attempting to determine the purpose of her year-long stay in India, identify every location she visited during that period, and examine her contacts within India as well as abroad. The investigation is also focused on identifying the individuals who allegedly helped her obtain an Aadhaar card under a false identity, a development that has added a significant dimension to the ongoing probe.

Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk was removed from the protest site at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Saturday and admitted to Safdarjung Hospital after remaining on an indefinite hunger strike since June 28. The development triggered sharp criticism from several opposition parties, which accused the Central Government of suppressing peaceful democratic protests instead of engaging in dialogue with the protesters. Wangchuk had been fasting in support of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) agitation over alleged examination irregularities and the demand for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. His removal came two days before a proposed march to Parliament scheduled for July 20, the opening day of the Monsoon Session.

Opposition leaders questioned the police action and alleged that the government had chosen force over dialogue. Aam Aadmi Party National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal said the Central Government should have held discussions with Wangchuk instead of removing him from the protest site. He alleged that the government was displaying arrogance by forcibly removing Wangchuk rather than addressing concerns over the country's education and examination system. Kejriwal further claimed that the government was attempting to suppress the Cockroach movement instead of introducing meaningful reforms.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray also condemned the action, describing it as an attack on democratic rights. He alleged that the world was witnessing democracy in India being weakened through force and claimed that even peaceful student protests against an allegedly incompetent minister were no longer being tolerated.

The Congress also criticised the government's handling of the protest, alleging that the constitutional right to dissent was being undermined. Congress Member of Parliament Pawan Khera, who met Wangchuk on Friday, said the Constitution guarantees every citizen the right to peaceful protest. He alleged that the Union Government was treating dissent as a law-and-order issue rather than protecting democratic rights.

Khera further stated that the Delhi Police reports directly to the Union Home Ministry, which had appointed a new Police Commissioner in Delhi only a day earlier. He alleged that if the removal of Wangchuk represented the new commissioner's first assignment, it reflected political obedience taking precedence over constitutional duty. He also criticised the government's handling of previous protests, alleging that it had earlier dragged away women wrestlers and manhandled former servicemen. According to Khera, the government viewed peaceful protest as a law-and-order problem instead of a fundamental democratic right, describing the situation as a matter of serious concern for the world's largest democracy.

Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav termed Wangchuk's removal from the hunger strike site an "utterly reprehensible" development and demanded that his treatment at Safdarjung Hospital be conducted under judicial oversight. Yadav said the incident had rapidly attracted national and international attention, adding that concern for Wangchuk's condition and anger against the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government had spread widely.

Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) chief Sharad Pawar also criticised the Centre, alleging that the government acted only after realising that the situation had moved beyond its control. Pawar claimed Wangchuk had been arrested on Saturday morning and asserted that the protest would continue regardless of his detention. He further alleged that no representative of the Union Government had met Wangchuk during his hunger strike and confirmed that the Opposition would raise the issue during the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament.

Shiv Sena (UBT) Member of Parliament Sanjay Raut alleged that Wangchuk's removal was intended to divert public attention from the party's "Ram Raksha" protest in Nagpur under the leadership of Uddhav Thackeray. Raut described the action as tyranny and alleged that the government had failed to resolve the issues for which Wangchuk had been fasting for 21 days. He further claimed that the activist was forcibly detained and admitted to hospital in an attempt to shift media and public attention away from the large-scale protest in Nagpur against the alleged looting of the Ram Temple.

Trinamool Congress Member of Parliament Sagarika Ghose also criticised the government's action, alleging that it was prompted by concerns over Wangchuk's proposed march to Parliament. She described the incident as dictatorial, unacceptable, unfortunate, and an assault on democracy and the rights of citizens.

Senior Aam Aadmi Party leaders Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh, and Saurabh Bharadwaj also criticised the Delhi Police action. They alleged that the government was attempting to silence peaceful dissent instead of addressing concerns surrounding the alleged examination irregularities that had prompted the ongoing agitation.

With multiple opposition parties accusing the Centre of suppressing democratic rights and avoiding dialogue, the controversy is expected to become a significant issue during the forthcoming parliamentary proceedings.

A major land cave-in at a residential construction site in Thane's Naupada area on Saturday morning triggered an emergency response after excavation work destabilised the surrounding ground, leaving a large tree and the compound wall of a neighbouring property in a dangerous condition. The incident occurred at around 8.30 am in Bhaskar Colony. Although no injuries or casualties were reported, civic authorities swiftly secured the area to prevent further damage and ensure public safety.

According to the Thane Municipal Corporation's Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC), the cave-in was caused by excavation work being carried out for an under-construction residential building. The excavation weakened the adjoining land, creating a hazardous situation for the neighbouring property.

RDMC Chief Yasin Tadvi said the excavation for the building project caused a section of land to collapse, leaving a tree and the compound wall within the premises of the adjacent building in an extremely dangerous condition. While no one was injured in the incident, authorities immediately initiated precautionary measures to minimise the risk of further structural damage.

Following the cave-in, emergency teams from the Regional Disaster Management Cell, the Public Works Department, the Fire Brigade and the Tree Authority reached the site with utility vehicles and a hydraulic lifter. Officials conducted an assessment of the affected area, secured the site and implemented safety measures to protect nearby residents and pedestrians.

As the excavation had left a large tree leaning dangerously towards the adjoining property, the Tree Authority removed it to eliminate the immediate threat. Officials continued monitoring the site while ensuring that surrounding structures remained safe.

According to civic authorities, the project developer has already initiated immediate soil stabilisation work to strengthen the excavation site and prevent any additional cave-ins. Yasin Tadvi stated that further action would be taken by the construction and town planning departments after the necessary assessment. Authorities are also expected to examine whether all prescribed safety measures were followed during the excavation work.

The latest incident comes a day after another structural failure was reported in Thane's Naupada area. On Friday morning, at around 9.30 am, a portion of the boundary wall of a dilapidated bungalow collapsed onto a busy road. No injuries were reported in that incident either.

Following the wall collapse, disaster management personnel, along with officials from the Public Works Department and the anti-encroachment department, cleared the debris using a pickup vehicle and a JCB machine, restoring normal traffic movement.

The Thane Municipal Corporation stated that the bungalow had already been classified as a Category C-1 structure, indicating that it was in a dangerous condition, unfit for occupation and required immediate demolition. Officials confirmed that the structural vulnerability of the property had already been identified before the boundary wall collapsed.

The back-to-back incidents in Naupada have intensified concerns over construction safety and the condition of ageing structures in the area. With excavation work and structurally unsafe properties posing significant risks, civic authorities are expected to closely examine compliance with safety regulations while continuing efforts to safeguard residents and public infrastructure.

Mumbai: Nodal cyber police have registered a First Information Report against unidentified fraudsters for creating fake websites and email addresses resembling those of Mahindra Holidays & Resorts India Ltd (MHRIL) and offering fraudulent membership upgrades and annual subscription fee discounts.

MHRIL provides hospitality services across India through its official platform and offers membership packages ranging from Rs 1.60 lakh to Rs 15 lakh. Members are required to pay an annual renewal subscription fee ranging from Rs 18,000 to Rs 22,000.

The fraud came to light on June 23, after a Club Mahindra member informed the company that he had paid Rs 1.26 lakh on May 16 for a membership upgrade but had not received any confirmation. An internal verification conducted by the company revealed that MHRIL had neither received the payment nor any request for the upgrade.

Police officials stated that several other customers were also cheated through the fraudulent scheme. The company's information technology team later detected and blocked a fake domain created to imitate the company. However, investigators found that another deceptive domain was registered the very next day.

According to the complaint, the fraudsters used fake email addresses and impersonated company representatives, including an individual who identified himself as "Suniel" through a mobile contact and another person who claimed to be relationship manager "Manish Pandey". They allegedly approached existing Club Mahindra members with false offers related to discounted annual subscription fees and membership upgrades. Several customers reportedly transferred money after being misled by the fraudulent communications.

Police officials stated that the money was routed through third-party payment gateways. The company clarified that these payment gateways are not authorised to collect membership fees or annual subscription fees on its behalf.

The complaint further alleges that the accused created fake electronic records and impersonated company officials as part of a criminal conspiracy aimed at cheating customers. The cyber police investigation is underway to identify the individuals involved and trace the financial transactions linked to the fraud.

The case highlights the growing threat of digital impersonation fraud, where criminals misuse company identities and electronic platforms to target unsuspecting customers through fake offers and deceptive communications.

Indian Accent’s Mumbai outpost has secured a significant global recognition by becoming part of 50 Best Discovery, an exclusive collection of expert-curated recommendations featuring some of the world’s most notable restaurants, bars, hotels, and vineyards. The inclusion was announced as part of a major July 2026 update to the platform, which introduced more than 650 new venues and expanded coverage to over 75 additional cities and towns for the first time.

Unlike the annual 50 Best rankings, 50 Best Discovery is not a competitive ranking system. Instead, it serves as a trusted reference guide for travellers and diners seeking expert-selected hospitality experiences without a numbered ranking format. The platform now features more than 3,500 hospitality establishments across over 800 cities worldwide.

The latest update added over 210 restaurants, 110 bars, 130 hotels, and introduced vineyards as a new category with more than 190 additions. Every establishment featured on the platform, including Indian Accent Mumbai, is selected through votes from the 50 Best expert Academies, the same global and regional voting bodies responsible for the organisation’s recognised rankings. Restaurants cannot apply for inclusion, and selection is based entirely on academy recommendations.

Located inside the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre, Indian Accent Mumbai opened in 2023, bringing one of India’s most celebrated contemporary dining brands to the country’s financial capital. The restaurant was founded by Rohit Khattar and Chef Manish Mehrotra, the team behind a culinary name that has established a strong presence from New Delhi to New York.

Under the leadership of Executive Chef Rijul Gulati, Indian Accent Mumbai focuses on seasonal produce and innovative global ingredients while creating dishes that combine modern culinary techniques with familiar flavours and nostalgic elements.

The restaurant’s menu features several signature dishes, including meetha aachar pork ribs with green apple, ghee roast soya boti served with roomali roti pancake, and daulat ki chaat with rose petal chikki and roast almond.

The Mumbai location also offers exclusive creations such as gunpowder prawns with red rice, smoked chilli and raw mango curry; guchhi matar with asparagus and Kashmiri morel pulao; and burrata chaat layered with lotus root papdi and mustard tomato jam. Along with vegetarian and non-vegetarian tasting menus, the restaurant provides vegan, gluten-free, and Jain dining options.

The restaurant’s interiors reflect Mumbai’s Art Deco heritage through a combination of marble surfaces, geometric glassware, pastel armchairs, and rust-toned sofas. A golden globe light fixture enhances the regal bar area, while seating arrangements overlook a dancing fountain. The venue can accommodate up to 75 guests and includes two private dining rooms, one with seating capacity for 18 guests and another for 10 guests, along with an interactive show kitchen.

The walls feature a carefully selected collection of images showcasing UNESCO Indian heritage sites and Art Deco photography by Cannes-winning photographer Rohit Chawla, connecting the restaurant’s design identity with Mumbai’s architectural legacy.

Nitin Mathur, Chief Operating Officer of EHV International, described the recognition as an important milestone in Indian Accent’s global journey. He said the brand has spent more than a decade redefining contemporary Indian cuisine worldwide while maintaining its connection with traditional flavours and memories. He highlighted Indian Accent New Delhi’s achievement of being featured on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list for 13 consecutive years as a reflection of the brand’s consistency.

Speaking about the Mumbai location, Mathur said that joining 50 Best Discovery was especially meaningful, coming only three years after the restaurant opened at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre. He added that the recognition from the international 50 Best Academy placed Indian Accent Mumbai among exceptional hospitality destinations across the world.

He further emphasised that Indian Accent’s philosophy has always extended beyond exceptional cuisine, focusing on creating a welcoming experience where every guest feels genuinely valued and cared for.

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the licence of a canteen operating at Mumbai’s King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospital and ordered an immediate halt to its operations after an inspection revealed unhygienic conditions and violations of food safety regulations.

The action was taken against M/s Stany Caterers, which runs the canteen from the ground floor of the Old Nurses Home building at KEM Hospital in Parel. The FDA’s Zone 3 team conducted the inspection on July 15 and found violations of the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA) and related regulations.

King Edward Memorial Hospital, a public medical college and hospital established in 1926, is affiliated with Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS).

Following the inspection, food safety officials issued a stop business notice against the canteen operator. The designated officer also suspended the food business licence of M/s Stany Caterers with immediate effect due to the reported food safety and hygiene violations.

During the inspection, FDA officials collected four formal food samples for laboratory examination. The samples included prepared rice, mixed pulses bhaji, kabuli chana used as a raw material, and refined sunflower oil.

The Maharashtra FDA has intensified action against food businesses since IAS officer Tukaram Mundhe assumed charge as Maharashtra FDA Commissioner in May. Multiple inspections have been carried out at hotels, restaurants, and dhabas across the state as part of the enforcement drive.

Earlier, the FDA had suspended the food business licence of Mumbai-based Parsi Dairy Farm after officials found serious violations related to food safety and hygiene standards.
