The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially released the results for the December 2025 cycle of the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), marking a significant milestone for nearly a million aspirants across India. On Thursday, the agency uploaded the comprehensive scorecards and subject-wise cut-off lists to its official portal, concluding an intensive evaluation process for one of the country’s most competitive academic examinations. The results determine the eligibility of candidates for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), Assistant Professor positions, and Ph.D. admissions, serving as the primary gateway for those pursuing careers in higher education and research.

This year’s statistics highlight a notable demographic trend, as female candidates dominated the applicant pool. Out of the 9,93,702 individuals who registered for the exam, 5,85,400 were women, accounting for nearly 59% of the total candidates. This surge in female participation reflects a growing shift toward gender-diverse representation in the Indian academic landscape. The examination itself was a massive logistical undertaking, conducted across 663 centers in 283 cities. Between December 31, 2025, and January 7, 2026, the NTA administered the computer-based test in 11 shifts covering 85 diverse subjects.

The academic bar remained high, with subject-specific cut-offs reflecting the rigorous nature of the competition. The highest cut-off scores were recorded in Prakrit at 248 for the unreserved category, followed closely by Buddhist and Jaina studies at 244, and French at 240. According to official data, the qualifying pool is divided into three distinct categories: 5,141 candidates successfully secured the Junior Research Fellowship, 59,821 qualified for Assistant Professorships, and 117,058 were cleared exclusively for Ph.D. admissions. To maintain the integrity of the process, the NTA had previously released provisional answer keys and recorded responses in mid-January, allowing candidates to verify their performance before the final declaration.

Candidates can now access their results by logging into the official NTA website using their application numbers and dates of birth. Successful qualifiers for the JRF and Assistant Professorship will receive their eligibility certificates and award letters via the NTA portal in due course. As these scholars prepare to enter the next phase of their academic careers, the success of over 7.3 lakh examinees underscores the continued relevance of the UGC NET in standardizing teaching and research excellence across the nation’s universities.
