Hooda Accuses Haryana Government of Letting Sports Stadiums Fall Into Ruin

Former Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda accuses the BJP government of neglecting state sports infrastructure, claiming stadiums built under Congress rule have been left to decay. He cites unused MPLAD funds, two athlete deaths linked to poor facilities, and demands a high-level probe and support for affected families.

Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has sharply criticized the state’s BJP-led government, alleging that it has allowed once-promising sports infrastructure to deteriorate to a point of crisis. Speaking on the condition of stadiums across the state, Hooda claimed that facilities built during previous Congress administrations—once described as world-class—have been left without basic maintenance over the past eleven years.

According to Hooda, the government failed to allocate even a token budget for the upkeep of stadiums, including those in Lakhanmajra and other districts. He further alleged that ₹18.5 lakh sanctioned from the MP Local Area Development Fund by Rohtak MP Deepender Singh Hooda was also not permitted to be utilized for repairs or improvements.

Hooda linked the government’s alleged neglect to two recent fatal accidents involving promising young athletes, who he said lost their lives due to unsafe and deteriorated sports facilities. Calling the deaths a direct outcome of administrative negligence, he demanded an impartial, high-level investigation to determine responsibility. He also urged the state to provide government employment and adequate financial compensation to the families of the deceased players.

In a forceful conclusion, Hooda argued that the condition of Haryana’s sports infrastructure reflects wider governance failures that endanger both the state’s athletic future and the safety of its youth. He emphasized that restoring and upgrading stadiums must become an urgent priority before more lives and talent are lost.
