Heavy rains lash Kashmir's Lolab, Poonch; homes damaged, families shifted to safety
Continuous rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district has disrupted normal life in the region. Several low-lying areas are now facing flood-like conditions, with water entering homes. Residents have been evacuated overnight and shifted to higher altitudes in view of torrential rains.
Some houses have reportedly been swept away by sudden floodwaters, while many others have suffered serious damage. Properties and schools in the affected areas have also sustained major losses. A major rescue operation has been launched in the area.
Administration sets up helpline
The district administration has set up a 24x7 helpline to provide emergency assistance to those affected by the floods. Relief and rescue operations are actively ongoing, and efforts are being made to restore normalcy in the region.
Man rescued from River in Mendhar amid sudden water surge
In the Mendhar sub-division of Poonch district, rivers and streams are in full spate due to the relentless rainfall. A man got trapped near the riverbank when the water level suddenly surged.
According to reports, he had gone to attend a funeral near the cremation ground, which is located close to the river. The sudden rise in water left him stranded. Locals present nearby acted swiftly and managed to rescue him.
Heavy rain wreaks havoc in Kashmir’s Lolab
The forest area of Warnow, located in the Lolab region of north Kashmir's Kupwara district experienced a heavy rainfall on Monday.
So far, there have been no reports of loss of life or property. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation in the region.
Dal lake at spate due to heavy rain in Srinagar
Meanwhile heavy rains have lashed several parts of Poonch, causing severe waterlogging in the area. The downpour was also witnessed in Srinagar, leading to rise in water level of the Dal Lake.
