PM Modi to unveil development projects worth Rs 2,200 crore in Varanasi today

Varanasi:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit his parliamentary constituency Varanasi, today to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of a host of development projects worth approximately Rs 2,200 crore. Scheduled to begin at 11 AM in Banauli (Kalikadham), Sevapuri, the event will also feature a public address and the release of the 20th instalment of the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme.

As part of the farmer welfare initiative, PM Modi will digitally transfer Rs 20,500 crore into the accounts of over 9.7 crore farmers across the country, including 2.21 lakh farmers from the Varanasi district.

The Prime Minister will inaugurate 14 completed projects worth Rs 565.35 crore and lay the foundation stones for 38 new projects valued at Rs 1,618 crore. These initiatives span crucial sectors such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, tourism, urban development, and cultural heritage, aimed at holistic urban renewal.

Improved connectivity and Road Infrastructure

Among the key infrastructure projects, PM Modi will inaugurate the four-lane Varanasi–Bhadohi Road and the Chhitauni–Shool Tankeshwar Road. He will also commission a railway overbridge at Hardattpur and lay foundation stones for road-widening projects in Dalmandi, Lahartara-Kotwa, Gangapur, Babatpur, and new overbridges at LC No. 22C and Khalispur Yard.

Power sector modernisation

The Prime Minister will lay the foundation for power infrastructure upgrades worth over Rs 880 crore under the Smart Distribution Project, which includes underground cabling and modernisation of electrical systems across the city.

Tourism and cultural restoration

Modi will inaugurate the redevelopment of 8 riverfront ghats and begin work on the Kalika Dham development, beautification of Rangildas Kutiya Ghat and Durgakund, and restoration of the Kardameshwar Mahadev Temple. Additional initiatives include the revival of Munshi Premchand’s ancestral house, urban greening via Miyawaki forests, and rejuvenation of heritage water bodies like Ramkund, Mandakini, and Shankuldhara kunds.

Educational and healthcare enhancements

PM Modi will inaugurate upgraded facilities in 53 municipal schools and lay foundations for a new library and a revitalized government high school. He will also announce the launch of robotic surgery and CT scan facilities at Mahamana Cancer Centre and Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital, along with a new homeopathic college and hospital.

Support for sports and security

The Prime Minister will inaugurate a synthetic hockey turf at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Sports Stadium, a 300-capacity multipurpose hall at PAC Ramnagar, and a Quick Response Team (QRT) barracks to bolster emergency response preparedness.

Farmer welfare and inclusive support

A key part of the visit will be the disbursal of Rs 20,500 crore under the PM-Kisan scheme, benefiting farmers nationwide. PM Modi will also launch the registration portal for the Kashi Sansad Khel Pratiyogita and distribute over 7,400 assistive devices to elderly citizens and differently-abled individuals.

Security and crowd management

The Varanasi administration has deployed comprehensive security arrangements, including drone surveillance, CCTV coverage, traffic rerouting, and special accessibility facilities to ensure smooth proceedings.

A vision for new Varanasi

PM Modi’s visit underscores the central government’s commitment to transforming Varanasi into a modern, inclusive urban center, blending technological advancement with cultural preservation. The launch of high-impact projects today is expected to significantly enhance the city's connectivity, livability, and spiritual charm, aligning with the broader goals of ‘Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi’ (Development with Heritage).
